I want to make the case that we should recapture the art of politeness! Being polite gives others dignity and is a tip of the cap to the understanding that life isn’t just about us. It’s in large part about how we serve and care for others.
So, here’s some simple thoughts on how we can recapture being polite:
The next time you’re at the grocery store and you walk between someone and a food shelf they are looking at, say “excuse me”.
The next time you are walking across a parking lot and a car stops to let you pass, wave and say “thank you”.
The next time you are driving and someone slows down to let you in front of them, wave and say “thank you”.
The next time you see a piece of trash on the ground, pick it up so someone else doesn’t have to.
